Finally something that has been widely debated with respect to its allowance in the light of Islam .There are always conflict of opinion regarding such matters .
Something I found with a little research it is in Sahih Muslim Book #004, Hadith #1942

brilliant site! what can i say!
You seem to worry too much about what people like irshad manji and salman rushdie think. The problem is, they do not want to follow the desire of Islam. They want to mold Islam according to their desires. This is why we have so many sects(firqas). All these firqa people are non-muslims.

, also people like irshad manji dont worry me . But the fact that muslims today dont take responsibility of their religion and dont understand the importance of reading and understanding the Quran !
