I have always failed to understand why people smoke ! why ? . It destroys the persons personality for me ‘literally’ why would you opt to be a stinking smoke engine ?. Well to each his own then , a recent survey was carried out on smoking and its effects . There are more than 25 million smokers in the country out of which 28 per cent are youngsters. The number of youths taking up smoking every day in the country is also increasing at an alarming rate of 1,200. These facts were revealed by Executive Coordinator, The Network for Consumer Protection, Dr Talib Lashari at a news conference here on Friday. Dr Lashari announced a country-wide advocacy and awareness campaign for introducing packing reforms regarding tobacco control in the country under the name ‘Policy Advocacy and Stakeholder Awareness Building for Packaging Reforms to Reduce Demand for Cigarettes in Pakistan’.

He said an estimated 100,000 smokers died annually from tobacco-related illnesses in the country. Talking about the production of cigarettes, he said, “more than 55.3 billion cigarettes are produced every year in the country”.
In Pakistan, about 50 per cent of the population is illiterate, and among them the ratio of smokers is very high, Dr Lashari said, adding that written warnings had very little impact on the decision of these people regarding smoking.
In this context, pictorial warnings were advised in the FCTC to give a clear message to smokers as well as non-smokers about the harmful effects of smoking. In this regard, 42 picture-based cigarette warnings were prepared for the 25-member countries including Pakistan.

I think this a great step towards health awareness. Smokers should be warned of the health risks of smoking . What is more disturbing is that smokers are more of a health risk for fellow non smokers inhaling all the fumes .Passive smoking has been known to be more harmful then smoking itself .
Thereby smokers don’t only put them selves on the risk of being easily effected by diseases but also increase the risks for others. This is why most of the countries have banned publicly smoking and separate areas in restaurants buses and other spots have been allotted.

Although you have a point, and we all know the dangerous effects of smoking… it isn’t as easy as simply putting the cigarette down.
A family member of mine is a smoker, and he started way back when… when smoking was considered harmless. Still, I’m proud of him, he’s been cutting his smoking down. However, this doesn’t stop my incessant worrying over his health. I’m sure that he would love to stop but his addiction is a strong one. He’s already tried patches and what have you. I think he’s fully aware of how dangerous this is, but what can he do? The human will is only so strong.

bella welcome to my blog
and thanks a lot for sharing the experience.
I am aware of the withdrawal symptos of smoking as I have a few people in the family who are smokers, although luckily not chain smokers. I understand the condition but the point is motivation can be a vital role in quitting. There are various issues involved and the smoker tends to get lazy and agitated over quitting. But overall it is obviously not impossible. Afterall there are examples of people quitting drugs and alcohol , but then again with family and friend’s help and support it can be made a lot easier:)

I have also seen many smokers and asked the same question, but ultimately have come to the point that reality is not faced by most of the people rather we like to live in an other world. The world full of attractions and deceptions that are full of mirage. The reality is that every evil has a fatal destiny and the only hope is truth and if you are ready to stand up for thuth you have to be firm and determined and that comes from only the core of your heart, which you can only get from a pure hope/pure love not deceptions that would again misguide you to the darkness.
Those who seek darkness are blessed with more and more darkness and those who seek truth are blessed with more wisdom. Wisdom can not be baught from books, rather it should be stored in the hearts made of pure and honest centiments and one can feel tremendous power that can fust flicker away the thaughts of evil in seconds.

On May 22nd, 2009 I celebrated 5 years of quitting cigarettes Masha’Allah. Cigs are really addictive; 5 years down the road, I still feel an urge at times.
My father quit over 30 years ago and claims that the urge to smoke lingers even that far on.
Advice for all those who are trying to quit:
It’s not easy, but remember that one puff and you’re hooked back up so you have to convince yourself not to take that one puff.
