President Zardari: Who do we blame?

Jump to Comments

ORIGINALLY POSTED AT PRO-PAKISTAN

September 6th ‘2008 the Presidential election result is out, announcing Asif Ali Zardari as the President of Pakistan. Words fall short to explain the helplessness with in every patriot today. Right now images flashing on TV with flags of PPP blazing all over the screen, party workers enchanting slogans of ‘JIYAY BHUTTO’. The PPP representatives count this as the ‘victory of democracy’. What is democracy? Is it the choice of the majority in favor of national interest?. If that is so why don’t I hear more people enchanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ than ‘JIYAY BHUTTO’?.The green flag falls back as the crowd waves red, black and green. People are out on the street supposedly ‘celebrating’ the victory of national interest. If this is catastrophe the question should be how long will we allow ourselves to live in this state?.

Today I don’t wish to be sarcastic, I don’t wish to point out the flaws in the current situation. What has happened has happened, it is time now that we learn to live constructively even in mayhem. Enough time has been wasted in constant criticism and despair and it is time to take the lead. The change can only be brought about if  something is done for real. Everyone of us has the potential and the authority to change the little bits around them, which can serve as the epicenter of a revolution. The piling up of anguish will only result in destruction and public display of outburst. Enough is enough , the current situation in or country screams out for a strategic change in mind set.

The only one to blame today is ourselves. We need to acknowledge the fact that the only reason our voice is not being heard is due to our own weakness. It is because we sadly don’t represent the ‘majority’ of Pakistan. While we enchant slogans of democracy we forget that the majority has not developed rational thinking. The purpose of this thought is not to underestimate our majority but to make sure we don’t ‘overestimate’ them. If we wish to see the true reflection of national interest, it is essential that the majority of us know where our interest lie. If anyone has the power to put a stop to all this madness it is me and YOU.

  • Very well said hmm.. Frankly speaking when I heard this thing I really wanted 2 cry hmm, why? Well I dont know hmm maybe coz of helpness and the thought of this madness.. I think Pakistan needs lots of duas/prayers now more than ever b4… But then again dua ke sath dwa bhi chahiye hoti hai sometimes!

    Allah protect Pakistan from all thats evil, coz he can and INSHALLAH he will hmm!

  • That is true indeed I felt like crying too , in fact have been feeling helpless. But whats done is done we need to make the change in ourselves now.

  • change our selves..?
    please elaborate your point ..!
    i mean i have done enough brain storming on this and i got nothing ..!we are so *helpless* right now k doing anything won’t change anything.=(

  • While we enchant slogans of democracy we forget that the majority has not developed rational thinking.

    Precisely. Though the proponents of democracy are also, and often, capable of irrationalities.

    We are just having the kind of leaders as we ourselves are. It’s time that we start changing… for good.

  • I see a post apocalyptic Pakistan when i think of Zardari as president

  • @ anum : I understand what ur going through because the feeling is mutual, but its not a one man show now is it?. Its time we stop thinking that one man being there will change our destiny.Yes the impact is there , but we can outnumber it. We need to take a stand now , spread awareness. Help educate our people so that they don’t make wrong choices in the future. Let him be the President, everything has its downfall and so will he. The bets thing we can do is stop being hopeless about our country.

  • *optimism*! =) i love that !I not being a pessimist neither being hopeless,I seriously want to do some thing for Pakistan.
    Right we can outnumber them and we can standout with our rebellious intentions and can educate and can start from square one but now people have become so numbed and obstinate that they don’t bother to listen or do right things.this is the problem .!=(

  • well i don’t know but i seem to get impressed by this guy by his every political move… i am not his fan duh.. never ever… but i think he was ‘underestimated’ by his opponents the way he is playing his cards is awesome. at the end of the day if he is able revive our economy and pour some funds into stocks and keep law and order situation under control then i don’t see anything wrong with zardari… i think people would forgive and forget his past deeds if he plays well this inning

  • Anum ! that’s absolutely true but we have to start somewhere. This distorted image of democracy has to fade off, there is an obvious end to everything and this shall tooo fade away.I just hope that there is something good in store for Pakistan even thought it looks far fetched right now, but we have hope. We are the youth of Pakistan and we need to realize our importance because sooner or later we will need it to get our voice heard. And don’t worry sometime after our exam i ll tell u my little plan :) we can work on it together ?:) does that make u happy now ?:)

    @Imran:
    I like that you are being optimistic. Politics is certainly what this guy has learned ‘real’ well !.The way he has been playing his cards is commendable. But the fear of a normal Pakistani remains if this is all for self interest or otherwise. People have no choice but to let go and hope right now.I just wish that the country is stabilized, that indeed is of primary importance:)

  • @ sadaat : I agree with what u said , it is time to bring a change and stop neglecting our rights. Also it is time that we shed the ‘illusion’ that patriotism is a term only suited in books. It is OUR country and we need to sort out a way to rehabilitate it.

  • Yeah happy!would love to work on it .!=)

  • YAYYYY !!! :D am happy too :)

  • I just hate the fact that when someone whine about that the majority of this country has not developed rationale thinking or the people of this country are idiots and should not be allowed to vote. I find these arguments big pile of shit. because this is one way of telling the world that that i am the only person on this land of green who is politically correct and all those who think differently are dumb, jahil and stupid.

    In countries like Iran teenagers of 17 years of age exercise their right to vote. But if u ask a 30 yaer old Iraninan he will find himself more politically correct and mature in comparison but does that fact should be used to constitutionally ban those youngsters from voting? of course not.

  • Thanks ammar fro dropping by :) its nice to see u here…Also I think u got me wrong. The message that I meant to deliver was what I always say and is quite contrary to what you have perceived. I hate people when they first elect someone and then start mourning about how he has come to power but unfair means.The purpose of the post was to suggest that it if anyone is against Zardari then they have no one else to blame, but themselves. As I said I don’t believe Pakistan doesn’t deserve democracy , I just think our people need to be groomed more to make a choice which is more complicated then ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Most of our people who voted for PPP did either out of the name ‘bhutto’ , to get rid of Musharraf or out of sympathy. This is exactly the reason why after a couple of months the anti govt feeling will rise again. Its how it rolls here, people know the power of democracy but unfortunately they have faith in people for the wrong reasons. We saw in the past how fall of PPP brought people on the roads, enchanting distributing sweets.The same again happened when PPP came bak and again when PML (n) regained power. Yet again when Musharraf came and again after he has gone.
    Democracy is the right everyone reserves with themselves, but if we really want to stop people being self destructive we need to educate them. They need to understand that this is not a one man show and no messiah will come to rescue them.One should start believing in self empowerment, and for once in our lifetime have faith in the government for the right reasons.:)

  • why thank you, its a pleasure to be here sana :) and my previous comment was not directed to you but to thought that under rate the intellect and politically understanding of our average voters.

    And i totally agree with you when you say the following;

    One should start believing in self empowerment, and for once in our lifetime have faith in the government for the right reasons.

  • lol :) ok then but either ways I do agree with fully , even I don’t like ppl underestimating the people of Pakistan,and I certainly don’t think dictatorship is the answer.Personally don’t you think it coz of dictatorship our people have sort of fallen into an illusion that one man can wave the magic wand and fix their problems.Its as if they cant think for themselves and even if they do all they conclude is ‘choro yar meray karnay say kya farq parta hai’.. really sad :) .. do drop by often though :)

  • Reluctant Fundamentalist

    you know Pakistani politics has a very sadistic humorous twist to it, it is always a source of constant amusement for me. there are so many firsts you get to see everyday but its all in the game, its in built in our psyche to look towards someone higher to solve our problems rather than to devise a solution to our own problems. even after reading your post you see the same reaction, Leave it to God, prayers, dua (though there is nothing wrong with that) but the physical element of struggle is absent and in my opinion thats where we go wrong.

  • Yes that’s indeed true we lack the element, but it there somewhere it needs to be provoked. Not necessarily in a dramatic way, may be slow and steady but it does. Everything has its threshold and I think we are just about cross ours,now we need to speak up and I feel somewhere or the other all my countrymen stand mutual with me on this,we need to change our psyche and as far as I see it much has changed.I am still hopeful and will always be :)
